,THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE SHARP DROP IN G. J. COLES • ' A sharp drop in levels for G. J. Coles marked operations on tho Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, when a satisfactory volume of sales was made. Holders of Government loans were difficult to locate, but buyers came in strongly for all available supplies. Local .. body debentures were also well sought. Banks continued dull with poor buying support. New Zealands wore practically the only issue to attract attention. Insurances were firmer and New Zealands ma'do a slight recovery. Nationals gained ground. Only irregular support was given to tho classified issues where all transfers Mcro made at late rates. Metal issues again were marked down, both - Hill Proprietary and Electrolytic Z-tjics weakening on sale. G. J. C'oles wffife dealt in as low as 94s 6d, a full drtjp of 2s 9d. Among tho Dominion issiies, New Auckland Laundry wero lifted in dealing. Now Zealand Drugs moved upward, but Farmers' Fertilizers eased a slnulo. CLOSING QUOTATIONS
LOW DISCOUNT RATE FEDERAL reserve bank (Received August 27, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 20 . - The Federal " Reserve Bank has announced a reduction of the rediscount rate from I.J to 1 per cent.
