EASTERLY WINDS OCCASIONAL SHOWERS Tho -weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —A shallow depression has been crossing tho Dominion and is now centred east of the North Island. Pressure is still relatively low over the nothern Tasman Sea, while an anticyclone extends from southern Australia on to the southern Tasman. The fore-, cast is for south-westerly to southerly winds, strong at first on parts of the east coast, but otherwise light to moderate. Seas rather rough between Castlepoint and East Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light. to moderate southerly to south-easterly winds, backing later to easterly in the northern portion. Seas slight to moderate. The weather is likely to be changeable, with occasional showers or misty rain, more especially in eastern and northern districts, mainly fair, however, in Westland, and conditions improving shortly in most western areas. Temperatures cool.

SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST

CHANGEABLE AND COOL Tho Government meteorologist issued to tho Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province:— Light to moderate southerly winds, later tending to easterly. The weather is likely to he changeable, with showers or misty rain in places. Temperatures cool to moderate. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Fine but cloudy weather ruled yesterday, the wind beinjs light from the south-south-west. The maximum temperature reading of 63 degrees was the highest recorded for a considerable time. Following several days of low pressure the barometer began to rise quickly in tho afternoon. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 29.801n, Midnight, Thursday . .. 29.751n, Wellington.—The day was overcast and gloomy, an intermittent light drizzle accompanying a light southerly breeze. Christchurch.—The sky was heavily overcast throughout the day, although no rain fell. A strong south-westerly breeze kept the maximum temperature down to 50.8 degrees. The barometer rose slowly in the afternoon, the reading being 29.96 in. at 7.30 p.m. Dunedin. —Thejsky was overcast for the greater part of the day and temperatures were cool, the maximum being 53 degrees. A short period of sunshine was recorded in the morning. The barometer, which registered 29.95 in. at 6 o'clock, was steady.
