DRAINAGE FACILITIES THE PROBLEM OF FINANCE "The lack of drainage facilities in many parts is definitely holding back the development of the borough," said Mr. W. M. White- at a meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council last night. The question was raised as the result of a letter from a taxpayer to whom the Health Department had refused permission to construct a septic tank at his residence in Norwood Road. •The Mayor, Mr. J. Guiniven, commented that all Takapuna' and other boroughs in a like position could do was to deal with the most urgent cases as far as funds permitted. Where the population was scattered it was impossible to extend the drainage over the whole area. The borough would have to proceed slowly. A complaint was received from a resident of Karaka Street that the water main was insufficient for the houses and when ono residence was using its full amount those below it eouldr obtain only a very poor supply. The engineer, Mr. N. Sanderson, said the main dated back to the Waitemata County days and needed replacing. The matter was left with Mr. White and the engineer, with power to nc^.
