DAIRY INDUSTRY

TE AROHA-THAHES

CAPITAL TO BE INCREASED THE QUESTION OF ZONING [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] TK APOTIA, Saturday Over 100 shareholders and suppliers were present at the annual meeting of the To Aroha-Thames Valley Co-opera-tive Dairy Company, Limited, held in To A rob a to-day. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman, Mr. H. 31. Corbott, stated that seven years ago in tho days of peak prices the concern was purchased for £21,000. Today not a penny of the loans raised was owing, and £9OOO had been spent during that time on new machinery.

During tho time that tho finance company, Dairydom Finance, Limited, had been in operation, it had lent £35,500 to suppliers of the dairy company. The loans'to-day amounted to approximately £12,000. Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted. Messrs. English and Smith were reappointed auditors.

A special resolution was brought forward to bring the company into lino with the majority of other companies by having its season from June 1 to May 31, instead of from July 1 to June 30 as at- present. The motion was lost. A special resolution was passed increasing the nominal capital from £40.000 to £50,000. With reference to zoning, the chairman said that Amburv's suppliers had been sold to another company without their knowledge or consent. Thirteen of them endeavoured to got their cream to the To Aroha company, but the company had no option but to refuse it, as to accept it would have meant incurring a heavy'penalty. Mr. Courtney said that an application had been lodged for permission to erect a factory at cither Netherton or Waitakaruru. On tho advice of tjio Minister of Agriculture and the chairman of the Executive Commission of Agriculture, tho directors dropped tho idea of a factory at Netherton and concentrated on Waitakaruru. In spite of the fact that they were given to understand that there would be no difficulty in obtaining tho permit, the permit was refused. As a result, a very loyal band of suppliers had been lost to the company. The farmers in that district had formed the Franklin Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, and purchased tho Taupiri Dairy Company's Tuakau factory, and so the company, said Mr. Courtney, would not now be justified in establishing a factory at Waitakaruru, even if the permit was obtained. It was now, therefore, in the interests of tho company not to raise any objection to the zoning out of tho Maramurua district. KAIPARA COMPANY ELECTION OF DLBECTOBS [from our own correspondent! Tho Thames Valley Power Hoard has now taken the matter 111 hand and representatives will address meetings at various«coast centres and also at Thames. It is felt in some quarters that Thames businessmen should assist in finding the guarantee, considering the great asset the coast is to the town by reason of the thousands who spend holidays there.
