SUSTENANCE FRAUDS
FINE OF £25 IMPOSED THREE FALSE STATEMENTS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Three charges of making a false statement of earnings, to obtain benefit under the Employment Promotion Act, were laid against Edward Pardoe in the Petono Police Court to-day. It was stated that on three different weeks, when Pardoo declared that his earnings were nil, ho had actually been paid £3 19s, £4 17s 6d and £4 17s 6d for work he had done. From February to May ho received £lB 8s in sustenance payments. The magistrate said that merely to order Pardoe to repay tho money he had wrongfully received was to place a premium on the practice.
Defendant was fined £25 and costs on one charge, and convicted and ordered to pay costs on the other two charges.
