OPENING FARM LANDS

ROTORUA COUNTY ROAD [pY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] ROTORUA, Wednesday Large areas of land at present undeveloped, between Ngongotaha, Ilamurana and Tarukenga, will be opened up for closer settlement when the road at present being constructed by the Rotorua County Council from Hamtirana to Tarukenga is completed. Several cuttings have been made, and work at present is centred at the Waiteti Stream, where it has been found necessary to divert the flow of water. Men aro engaged completing a tunnel through 250 feet of hillside. Approximately 170 ft. has been completed, and when the tunnel is finished the stream will flow through it. The gully through which the stream at present passes will then be filled in to avoid the expense of erecting a bridge. Spoil from the cuttings is being used to assist in filling in the gulch, and when the tunnel is completed rock from the steep hills banking the crook will bo blasted into the gully.
