SECOND TEST
TEAMS FOR SATUEDAY ALTERATIONS IN HOME SIDE FAMOUS FULLBACK INCLUDED Ihe second Rugby League test match between Australia and New Zealand will be played at Carlaw Park on Saturday, and the game should create considerable interest. Tho Australians will be fielding a powerful thirteen, but the New Zealand team, which has been strengthened in the backs, should provido the visitors with strong opposition. Tho following tenms have been chosen:— NEW ZEALAND Fullback.—G. Nepia (Christchurch). Threequarters.—C. Davison (Christchurch), A. Kay (Ponsonby), W. Tittleton (Richmond), B. Riley (Ponsonby). Five-eighths.—N. Bickerton (Richmond). Halfback. —F. Halloran (Ponsonby). Forwards. —A. Gault (Manukau), J. Satherley (Richmond), W. Glynn (West Coast), J. Brodrick (Manukau), S. Wateno (Manukau), H. Tetley (Richmond). AUSTRALIA Fullback.—J. Beaton. Threequarters.—Hazefton, Reardon, B. Williams, Dawson. Five-eigluhs.—McKinnon. Halfback.—P. Williams. Forwards. Stehr, Nolan, Gibbs, Pearco, Pierce, Prigg. After his gamo for the Maori team yesterday, Nepia was obviously tho first selection as fullback, and his inclusion will greatly strengthen the New Zealand team. It is surprising, however, that several other Maori backs did not gain places in tho New Zealand side. Mahima must be considered unlucky not to get the halfback position, as he played a brilliant game yesterday and has stronger claims for selection than Halloran. Kay, who was injured recently, will replace R. Chase, and the Ponsonby player will need to produce his best form in order to play as well as the Maori centre. The New Zealand forwards will bo weakened by the absence of MeLeod and Cootes. who played in the first test, and were injured in yesterday's game. MeLeod hooked with great success for the Maori team. ' MAORI TEAM ENTERTAINED j DINNER TENDERED BY VISITORS! i Members of the Maori team and ; officials of tho New Zealand 'Rugby j League were the guests of the Austra-I lian players at dinner at the Hotel ' Auckland last evening. In congratulate i ing the Maori team on its victory, Mr. ] R. Savage, joint manager of the visit- i ing side, said that tho Australians had j been fully tested. He was sure that j every encouragement would be given • Maori teams to visit the Common- j wealth.
611 behalf of tho Maori Board of Control, the Rev. Panapa wished the Australian team every success in England. Other speakers were Messrs. J. Redwood, president of tho New Zealand League, S. Watene, captain of tho Maori team, and J. llukutai.
