LEAGUE TEAM

VISIT OF AUSTRALIANS

MATCHES IN AUCKLAND NEW ZEALANDERS TO TRAIN The first of tho two Rugby League test matches between the touring Australian team and New Zealand will bo played at Carlaw Park next Saturday, when tho visitors will meet a strong New. Zealand team. The Australians, who are en route to England, will arrive by tho Awatea to-morrow niorning. Tho following fifteen players for training were chosen on Saturday evening by the New Zealand selectors, M essrs. A. T. McClymont (Auckland), H. Avery (Auckland) and J. E. Amos (Christchurch): — Fullback. —S. Wateno (Manukau). Thrcequarters.—C. Davison (Christchurch), A. Kav (Ponsonby), R. Chase (Manukau), B. Riley (Ponsonby). Five-eighths.—N. Bickerton (Richmond), W. Tittleton (Manukau). Halfback. —F. ILalloran (Ponsonby). Forwards. —,T. Cootes (Wellington), W. Glynn (West Coast), A. Gault (Manukau), J. Broderick (Manukau), H. Mataira (City), H. Tetley (Richmond), F. Pickrang (Ponsonby). The team is a strong one, particularly in tho forwards, who should provide strong opposition for tho Australians. The inclusion of Tetley comes as a surprise, although he is a versatile player and can fill any position in the backs. It is noticeable that the selectors have not chosen a regular hooker, and the position is to be filled by Glynn, a backrow and front-row forward from the West Coast. To sacrifice hooking the ball against such a brilliant set of backs as the visitors possess does not seem justified, and J. Satherlev (Richmond) would have been a good choice. It is unfortunate that J. Hemi is not available, owing to injuries, and his absence from the fullback position 'is regretted. Hemi has been playing brilliant football, and is a clever attacking back against any opposition. His goal-kicking ability is well known. The form of W. Tittleton has not been good lately, and on tho day 11. Chase may be the five-eighths. Little fault can be found with tho selection of Halloran as halfback, although it is understood tho claim of Mahima (Manukau) was seriously considered. Tho team is to report for training at tho Auckland Gymnasium this evening.
