MARIST TEAM'S SUCCESS
NORTH SHORE WEAKENED Owing to casualties North Shore fielded a few players new to senior football in its match with Marist. Play was very oven pntil the closing stages, when Marist secured a definito advantage with two tries in quick succession. Good combined movements by each side wero often nullified in tho end by poor passing, but Marist look better advantage ot Its opportunities. Tho rearrangement of the North Shore backs completely upset their combination and the fast-raiding Marist forwards never allowed them any liberties. North Shore was first to score, L. Scott gathering a centre kick nicely, but Marist held the lead at half-time by 8 points to 7. Early after resuming, V. Scott, who played fullback, had a shot at goal from a penalty, tho ball,, striking tho crossbar and bouncing back infield. This incident marked tho turning point of the game and the fading of North Shore's chances. From then on the Marist forwards dominated play, and Anderson was in good form at goal-kicking, the final points being: Marist, 1.8; North Shore. 10. Glover played his usual safe same at fullback for tho winning team, whilo Midgely and Matson showed speed in the threcquarter lino, and McLaren was tho most noticeable of tho other backs for good w6rk, especially on defence. McGreal, who followed up keenly,
Anderson and Breed, led a hard-working pack. E. Scott and Hollows were the pick of tho North Shoro forwards, while Sterling, Bennetts and Cowan were the mainstay of tho rear division. For Marist, McGrcal (3) nnd Midgely scored tries, two of which Anderson converted. The latter also kicked a penalty goal. L. Scott and Cowan scored tries for North Shore. V.
