CAR CRASHES INTO TREE
TWO OCCUPANTS INJURED ACCIDENT AT HERNE BAY Two young people suffered shock and head injuries when the car in which , they were travelling crashed into a tree in _ Jen-pis Road, Herne Bay. ahptik three o'clock yesterday morning.* The injured persons were the driver, Mr. Mervyn Fraser Smith, of 57 Shelly Beach Road, and Miss Lulu Drysdale, of 3l Marine Parade. There were no other occupants. Proceeding along Jervois Road from the city in heavy rain, the car struck a tree on the side of the road near the corner of Redmond Street. The radiator of the car was forced back into the body by the force of the impact, and the front bumper was bent around the tree. The windscreen was shattered and a door was torn off its hinges.
Both the injured people were taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance, but Miss Drysdale was transferred to a private hospital yesterday. Neither of the victims is in a, serious condition.
