RAIN BECOMING GENERAL. COLDER TEMPERATURES The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were 33 follows: —A rather intense depression, apparently the last of the present series, is advancing on to the Dominion from the Tasman Sea. Pressure has risen considerably over South-eastern Australia, an extensive anti-cyclone being centred near Adelaide. The forecast is for moderate to strong northerly to westerly winds of gale force at times about and south of Cook Strait, backing to southerly to-night in the far south, and south-westerlies extending over the Dominion within the next 24 to .'56 hours. Seas rough south of Cape Egmont and in the Cook and Fovcaux Straits areas, rather rough north of Cape Egmont; elsewhere slight to moderate, but rising south of Castlepoint. Eastern Tasman Sea: -Strong north-west to west winds of gale force in tlie southern half, but south-west-erlies soon setting inhere and becoming general during Tuesday; seas rough. The weather to he fair at first in eastern coastal areas, hut otherwise changeable and squally. Intermittent rain is probable in districts with a westerly aspect, with some heavy falls from Taranaki southwards and " later rain extending to eastern areas also. Temperatures becoming colder.

SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST . UNSETTLED AND CHANGEABLE The Government meteorologist issued to the Hkiialo last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to strong northwest to westerly winds, backing to south-westerly within from 16 to 24 hours. The weather is likely to be unsettled and changeable, with rain at times and becoming colder. Seas rather rough to rough on the west coast, and moderate on tho east coast. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Fine weather with mild temperatures was experienced, although conditions became overcast in the late afternoon.
