Savage, who is returning; to the Dominion from the Imperial Conference by the Rangitata, stated in an interview at Balboa: "There would be no more wars if the ablebodied men of the world were employed at decent salaries, because the workers would refuse to fight." Mr. Savage said that while he was a fervent advocate of peace he was convinced that the effective defence of the British Empire was necessary and the Dominions would contribute toward the present plans. There was no question of sufficiencv of world production. The difficulty lav in the bad system of distribution. Mr. Savage said his Government was bending every effort to assure New Zealand workers a living wage by the exploitation of rich mines, agriculture and stock raising.
