RARE GERMAN WINE
£4,000,000 A GLASS AN UNDRINKABLE VINTAGE In the celebrated "Rose Cellar" of the Ratskeller at Bremen, Germany, there is a wine which even millionaires could not afford to drink. It «is a Rudesheimer from the year 1653. Tho wine cost originally 300 gold talers To this must now be added a yearly additional charge for interest . an:! "leakage." A statistician has reckoned that the wine to-day is worth £4O.V a drop, or over £4,000,000 a glass. The irony of it is that in practice, except as a curiosity, it is not w'ortl. a farthing, for the maxim that "the older the wine, the better" has itlimits." After nearly 300 years in which to "mature" this 1t353 Rudesheimer has lost its flavour and is now undrinkable. The finest wines in the "Rose Cellar" are of much more recent date. These are two vintages dating from 1893 and costing respectively £5 and £4 3s 6d the bottle.
