On a Wet Afternoon
DEAR BOYS AND GIRLS,— THE last few weeks I have Had a number of letters from members asking if I could possibly publish some really good sweet recipes. The cold, wet weather we have been having is just the time for toffee-making and candy-pulling. Unless good recipes are used the results of an afternoon over the saucepans are often disappointing, and plates of sticky liquid or large, brown blocks of concrete-like hardness stand dismally around the house. I have quite a lot of reliable recipes, but thought it would be far more fun if each of you sent in your favourite one. Let them contain simple materials and be easy to make. Be sure to copy them down very carefully and not miss a single item because that, of course, would spoil the whole lot. Last week I received a little packet through the post and in it was a sample of toffee that a member in Tauranga had made. It was very nice indeed, and as Lois kindly enclosed the instructions for making I can give you these also. I will pick out the recipes that seem to be the best. They will be published bnd mark-cards sent to the winners. The best of luck to you all and be jy / S} careful you do not burn yourselves tasting CMthe sweets before they are cool. O' Lots of love,
