GILDO ,T0 MEET HUGHES Tho contest beween Gildo and Archie Hughes arranged by tho Auckland Boxing Association should provide one of tho most interesting and spectacular contests to date. Tho Filipino gained a narrow points decision m their first meeting at Hamilton in a fight that was considered one of tho best seen in tho Waikato for many years. Gildo had Hughes on the mat in tho early stages, but tho contest was hard fought and ovenly contested. Tho amateur programmo is varied and interesting. Followers of tho gamo will bo pleased to see Hughio Sheridan in action again, but it remains to bo seen whether he can tako tho decision from Canavan, or Dargavillo. NEGRO DEFEATS BLATCH FIRST CONTEST IN AMERICA NEW YORK. July S At Madison Squaro Gardens this evening tho negro boxer Henry Armstrong (flst G l / a lb) knocked out the Australian, Alf Blatch (<Jst Sib), in the third round. This was Blatch's first contest in America. BOUT" ON AUGUST 26 FARR TO MEET LOUIS NEW YORK. July 8 The boxing promoter, Mr. Michael Jacobs, announces that the fight between Joo Louis (who knocked out J. Braddock on Juno 22 al Chicago) and Tommy Farr (Wales) will tako place on August 2'J at New York.
