FAILURE TO ACCOUNT
UNION FUNDS USED WORKERS' DELEGATE'S LAPSE For fraudulently omitting to account for £3 0s 6d collected by him as a workers' delegate to be paid to the Auckland Builders, General and Other Labourers' Union, David Johnson McGill,'labourer, aged 33, appeared before Mr. C. 11. Orr Walker, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, and pleaded guilty to' two charges of theft. In a statement to the police, accused admitted receiving the money wliilo engaged on drainage works at Birkenhead last January. Three months ago he used tho money to buy gear to go to a job with the Public Works Department at Helcnsville. He saved tho amount to make payment, but later spoilt it on living expenses and liquor. Detective-Sergeant McHugh said that accused had kept a correct record of moneys received by him to the union. He had not been in Court beforo, and if leniency were extendeo to him ho could return to his work. The magistrate admitted accused to probation for 12 months, and ordered him*to make restitution and refrain from drinking intoxicating liquor.
