MRS. EDITH WATKINS LINK WITH EARLY MISSION [nV TELEGRAPH —OWN" CORRESPONDENT] ' GISBORNE, Thursday An association with the early missionary days in New Zealand was severed with the death at her residence, Mangapapa, of Mrs. Edith Mary Watkins, widow of the late Mr. Edward Reginald Watkins, of Auckland. Deceased, who was born in tho Bay of Islands SO years ago, was a daughter of tho lato Mr. .Tames Kemp, farmer, of North Auckland, who was attached to tho Anglican Mission. Her paternal grandfather was Mr. James Kemp, senior, a blacksmith by trade, who lauded at the Bay of Islands in 1818. Mr. James Kemp, senior, was attached t.t> the Anglican Mission as catechist, and became New Zealand's first farmer. His plough was handed over to the Old Colonists' Museum in Auckland last year by a sister of Mrs. Watkins. Decea'sed's two sisters, Misses C. and G. Komp, reeide at Kerikeri, in tho oldest liouso in Now Zealand. Tho late Airs. Watkins passed tho earlier years of her life at Kerikeri, and on her marriago to Mr. Watkins, moved to Auckland. Following tho death of her husband many years ago slio came to livo in Gisborne. MRS. M. J. S. MACKENZIE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thursday The death occurred at her residence in Tinakori Road yesterday of Mrs. -Mackenzie, aged .87 years, widow of tho lato Mr. M. J. Scobio Mackenzie, of Kyebum station, Mount Ida, Central Otago.
