THE HAMILTON Y.M.C.A. COUNCIL REFUSES REQUEST [FROM OUR OWN correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday A request that the Hamilton Borough Council remit half tho rates &ue by the Hamilton Y.M.C.A. was received last evening, but was refused, the Mayor, Mr. J. R. Fow, remarking that the amount, £BO, could only be allowed out of the unauthorised expenditure fund, which could not meet the claim. The council was sympathetic toward the institution, said the Mayor, but it had not tho money with. which to express its feelings in a tangible form. ''l wish to congratulate Mr. D. V. Bryant and those associated with him on their wonderful achievement in raising sufficient money to liquidate tho debts of the Y.M.C.A.", said the Mayor. Several members of tho council expressed the view that now the institution was on its feet financially it should meet its commitments.
