BOXING
HUGHES-GILDO CONTEST The colourful Filipino boxer "Young Gildo" will be opposed to Archie Hughes at the Town Hall on Monday night in a contest scheduled for 12 three-minute rounds. Hughes met Gildo at Hamilton several months ago in a contest that was generally accepted as the best fight witnessed in the Waikato for many years. The decision in favour of Gildo, in the opinion of many veterans, was flattering to the winner. It was a hard, close fight and the fact that the Filippino had Hughes on the canvas in the first round must have gained him the verdict. In addition to the professional contest a fine programme of amateur bouts has been arranged.
