DIET AND HEALTH
Sir, —The contention advanced by vopr sub-leader of July 6 that " there is need to have the new interest (i.e., the science of nutrition) directed into •proper .'channels," will receive the whole-hearted support of all students of the subject".-Your appeal to the Government to accede at last to the wishes of the people in instituting an authoritatively conducted educative campaign is exactly in line with the aims of bonafide nutritional workers. Further, your warning to " Beware of faddists! " will also find an echo in the hearts of the pioneers of the nutritional prevention of ill-health. So long as the scientifically ordered guidance remains available in New Zealand of experienced nutritionists of the stamp of Dr. Mellanby, Professor Lady llhys Williams, the British Midwifery Association;"the Committee of the Privy Council for Medical Research, London, and the Health Committees of the League of Nations, there is little danger of resort being made to the ?i quacks," who will doubtless spring up like mushrooms, "eager to turn tho new idea to their own interests. Hie results of actual experiments made here over a period of years (especially with a •large bovs' school in the AYaikato) compare favourably with anything accomplished abroad. Your leader concludes with the recommendation that medical men should co-operate with the Health Department in the educative campaign advocated by you. We presume this covers an indication that the advice of the Mixed Committee of the League of Nations should now be accepted and that the study of the nutritional prevolition of ill-health should be incoiporated into the medical curricula and examinations of the Dominion.
