MORE SETTLED PERIOD MAINLY FINE AND COLD The weather report and forecast for Xow Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —An intense anti-cyclone covers Australia and extends across-the Tsisinan Sea on to the Dominion and tho indications therefore point_ to a more settled type of weather during the next few (lavs. The forecast h for northwesterly winds at first on parts of tho east coast of the South Island, but south-westerly to southerly prevailing, strong in some exposed positions, but decreasing and otherwise light to moderate. Seas rather rough to rough south of East Cape and north of Farewell Spit, but gradually decreasing; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong southerly winds with rough seas, but wind and sea gradually decreasing. A feu- isolated showers "are still probable at first on the East Coast and in the far south, but the weather otherwise is likely to bo fine. Temperatures cold, with some hard frosts. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FIXE AND COLD The Government meteorologist issued to the Hkiiald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light to moderate southerly winds. The weather for the most part is likely to be fine; cold temperatures, with inland frosts. Seas rather rough to rough, but decreasing on the west coast, moderate on the east coast. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —The weather in Auckland yesterday was fine and clear although the air * was chilly and there was a light southerly wind. The barometer rase steadily during the afternoon, and tho temperature at 4 p.m. was 51 degrees. Barometer, midnisrht. steady .. 30.20 in. Midnight, Tuesday .. 29.751n, Wellington. —It was a brilliantly fine day in Wellington, with a. fresh southerly breeze, which gradually decreased throughout tho morning and turned to a gentle north-westerly breeze during the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 46.2 degrees. Christchurch. —The day was fine and sunny. There was a light south-east breeze in the morning. The maximum temperature was 4-3.1 degrees. 'lhe barometer rose slowly during the day and registered 30.13 in. at 5 p.m. Dunedin. —The day was calm and mild, with bright sunshine during the middle part of the day. The barometer was steady at .'lO.lOin., and the maximum temperature was 50 degrees.
