HASLAM OUTSTANDING Marist had an eaßy win over Newton on the No. 2 ground, which was heavy after continuous rain. Tho Marist backs always had a territorial advantage and but for the good work of tho Newton forwards tho score would have been larger. The Marist rearguard, threw (ho ball about in good style, the insi.do backs Crocker, McLaren and Murdock, doing a lot of useful work, and being more certain in handling than the Newton backs. In the second half tho Newton backs threatened to score on several occasions, but the handling was weak each time a movement became dangerous. The Marist forwards were quick to take advantage of mistakes and fast following up was rewarded with two A feature of the game was the outstanding work of Haslam at centre. Ho varied hia play well and his straight running paved.the way for several tries. Midgelcy, on the wing, gavo Haslam good support and showed a lot of speed. . Murdock made some nice openings and, with McLaren, combined well. At fullback Glover got through a lot of sound work and his accurate fielding often saved Marist.
