The winners gave an excellent display of the passing game, in which both backs and forwards did effect',ve work. A feature of the game was the" fino. football-of tile Chase brothers and Hemi at fullback. Early in the game K. Chase cleverly beat the and his brother scored a fine try after nicely swerving past Kerr, who was left standing. Manukau scored another good try when the fori wards, headed by Broderick and Kama, broke away. The former handled twice, as did Hem , who raced into tho movement to add a nnlliant trv between the posts. Hemi was given a splendid ovation for his effort. The North Shore backs were outplaced, although the defence was very sound. The Manukan forwards ' packed bettnr thnii usual and got' a fair share_of the ball from the set scrum's. In the second hair J<orth Shore played, better football, but there was a <-.ck ■ of Hemt at fullback for Manukan played one of his best games and on this Form mnst be considered for tho fullback Position ■in any reprasentativo team. >ot only did he combine well on attack, but also saved Kolendidlv with hard, low tackles. R. Chaso scored a Sice try,- -and- was., always prominent on attack. T. Chase, at centre-three-nuarter did a lot of useful work, and with more experience is likely to develop '"to a fine player. Both Brimble, fivo-eightlis, and Mahima, halfback, excelled on attack and the pair compare favourably with any inside backs In Auckland. Broughton was Prominent on the wins. One'of the features of tho game was the good forward play of Broderick and Kame. The former has quickly the finer points of the game. Excellent control in dribbling was shown by Ivame. The backs received more of the ball from the set wrunw a* the result of good hooking by Ruther- . ford, who was making his first appearance Wl Th^North U Shore backs disappointed, with the exception of Sterling five-eighths and Kerr, at fullback. Both the wings, Scott 'and Bennetts, did well with limited opportunities Hallows and Bamett were the best of the forwards, while Hunt gave excellent support in the loose. • „ TTnr Manukau tries were scored b> R.
