AN ORAKEI PA

Sir, —In Orakei, Auckland lias a golden opportunity for the making of a model Maori pa, which would not be an tincumbranco to the ratepayers of the city, but which could he built on such lines as to be attractive and remunerative. A pood plan would bo to form a pa as near as possible to those of 100 years ago. Many Maoris could be employed as entertainers upon a fixed salary. Maori art could be revived and made into a profitable industry. Food prepared in the old Maori styta could be prepared and served to visitors. (These meals are truly delicious.) Maoris in native costumes could meet all incoming overseas vessels, as is done in tho world-famed Honolulu. It is all very well to say that tho Maori has been paid for the land taken from him. Would you give a child a large cake and not expect him to oat it all at once? H.N.P.
