AFFORESTATION PROPOSAL [ny TELEGHAFH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] OPOTIKI. Monday The need of afforestation in the Opotiki district was referred to at. a meeting of the Opotiki branch of the Farmers' Union by Mr. G. F. .Tob'in, who also emphasised the necessity for making provision for future fencing requirements. It was derided to write to the Commissioner of State Forests, tho Hon. F. Limestone, asking if the department contemplated taking any notion. Mr. Joblin was asked to head a deputation to the Minister of Agriculture during his visit to Opotiki next week. In connection with the suggested highway along the coast to Opotiki the opinion was expressed that .the bridge across Ohiwa Harbour would be very costly and would have to be nearly a mile long.
