NO SENIOR CONTESTS VISITS TO OTHER CENTRES AUCKLAND TEAMS SUCCESSFUL Owing to tho second Soccer test between tho English amateur team and New Zealand at Carlaw Park, there were no senior Rugby League contests in Auckland on Saturday. Tho majority of tho senior teams paid visits to other centres. The Auckland teams were successful, with the exception of Ponsonbv, which played a drawn game.

WELLINGTON. Sunday

Although 15 points down at half-time Ponsonby (Auckland) took tho game in hand in the second spell and forged ahead to draw with St. Georgo (Wellington), SO-all, in a Hugb.v League match at Newtown Park yesterday. Tho game was undoubtedly the best seen in Wellington this season, and a largo crowd of spectators was given an exhibition at, its best. Scorers for St. George were A. O'Connor (2), C. Mulholland (•_'), T. Cook and C. McNeil, and A. Selwood kicked a penalty goal. For Ponsonby J. Peterson (2), T. Davis, D. Riley, A. Kay and D. Kcane scored, and Keanv converted a try. Both teams threw the ball about with abandon, making the game spectacular and sparkling movements among tho forwards and backs of both sides were seen throughout the match. Ponsonby played against a dazzling sun in the first spell, and took some time to settle down to the new conditions. In addition, tho St. Georgo forwards had tho advantage of being much heavier.

A big crowd saw a fast and interesting exhibition of League football at Taneatua yesterdav afternoon, when the Manukau club (Auckland) beat the Bay of Plenty representatives by 51 points to 33. Considering their lack of experience in tho new code the local men played very well. A feature was the brilliant goal-kicking by Hemi, for Manukau. Brodrick played an exceptionally fine game for the visitor# and the pick of the local men was D. Wilson, at fullback.

CITY BEATS TAUPO [from our own correspondent] TOKAANU, Sunday In a League football match played here yesterday afternoon the Auckland City team defeated tho Taupo district representatives by 35 points to 20.

WHANGAREI, Sunday

There was a good attendance at Jubilee Park yesterday afternoon when the Marist, Auckland, Leaguij team defeated Kamo. the leading team in the Northland Rugbv League's senior championship competition, b.v 28 points to 0. The visitors showed finish in their movements which was lacking in the home team. For the winners tries wero scored by McGreal (2), Finlayson, Bakalich (2) and Crocker, while Anderson converted four tries and McLaren kicked a field goal. The curtainraiser, between the Takahiwai and Hikurangi senior teams, resulted in a draw, each team scoring eight points.

AUSTRALIAN TEAM'S VISIT Cablegram advice was received on Saturday by Mr. W. O. Carlaw, secretary of the New Zealand Rugby League, that the Australian Rugby League representatives are definitely coming to Auckland on their way to England. Arrangements have been made by the Australian Hoard of Control to have the Arawa diverted from Wellington, and the touring team will board the steamer in the Waitcinata Harbour, soon after the final match on Saturday, August 11.

Three games will be played at Carlaw Park.
