I DOMINION COUNCIL MEMBERS NORTH ISLAND CANDIDATES ; The election of the seveu unofficial | members of the North Island section ! of the New Zealand Council was held at last evening's meeting of delegates to the Auckland Bowling Centre. The following 10 candidates stood for election: —T. L. Arnott (Manawatu), A. Crawford (Wanganui), W. Gilbert, S. M. Stone (Wellington), G. L. Gladding, A. E. Whitten (Auckland), H. Mayo (Hawke's Bay), E. T. Petty (Taranaki) D. G. Robertson (East Coast), P. H. Rowe (South Auckland). The result of the voting was not announced, it being decided to forward the returns to the New Zealand Council. In connection with the carnival to be held in Sydney just prior to the commencement of the next Empire Games, advice was received from the secretary of the New South Wales' Bowling Association that play in the singles would be conducted on the "sudden death" principle, but section play would be held in the pairs and rinks competitions. It was reported that a meeting of New Zealand players who intended to compete in .Australia next January would be held shortly for the purpose of making preliminary arrangements. The president of the centre, Mr. E. Whitten, stated that his executive had considered a recommendation from the Ponsonby Club that a tournament should be held for the first-year champions of various clubs. Mr. Whitten said that a bowling enthusiast had mado an. pffer to defray some of the expenses in connection with the tournament, but his executive-,did not consider it advisable to stage the event during the next season.
