THE DAVIS CUP

AUSTRALIAN TEAM ILLNESS OF A. K. QUIST OTHER MEMBERS PRACTISE By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received May 27. 5.5 p.m.) FOREST HILLS. Ma.v-»2« It is announced that A. K. Quist, of the Australian Davis Cup team, has a slight attack of intestinal influenza. He is considerably better to-day, though he is confined to the house. He hopes to practise tomorrow. Crawford, McGrath and Bromwich played a few games today. The manager, Mr. C. Sproule, is pleased at the growing comment in all directions on the excellence of the Australian team, especially the recovery of McGrath. A foot fault committee was appointed to watch ail the players in the past few days and to warn them if they were breaking the rules. Of the Americans Budge and Mako are not teaming well. American tennis circles express some concern over Quist's condition and seemed to believe it is more serious than Mr. Sproule has indicated. They are wondering whether he will be prevented from playing against the Americans. The other members of the team kept his illness secret when they practised on Monday, when there was nothing about his play to indicate that he was ill. However, he suffered a relapse as the result of the practice and returned to bed yesterday. Questioned concerning the effect on Australia's chances in the cup contest if Quist is not able to play, Mr. Sproule smiled and remarked that the team was supplied with other good players. In the opinion of American circles, however, the absence of Quist would be a blow which might cost Australia her chance of winning the cup.
