SENIOR COMPETITION FOURTH SERIES OF GAMES PRINCIPAL MATCH DRAWN The fourth series of matches in the senior championship of the Auckland Rugby League was played on Saturday under good conditions. The principal attraction was between Ponsonby, the leading team, and North Shore, and after a fast, open contest a drawn game resulted. Both sides lost opportunities through lack of finish, but on the run of tho play Ponsonby was a little unlucky in not taking the honours. Ponsonby lost the game through a try scored behind the posts being not eonverted. Ponsonby scored two tries, one converted, while North Shore's points were gained from three penalty goals and a field goal. In the curtain-raiser Mount Albert easily accounted for Manukau. This game was marred by rough play, there being a lot of obstruction and "shepherding," while fists were used by forwards of both sides. Just after the bell for time two players became involved and the referee was noticed to part them. It is understood that the players concerned will be requested to make an explanation of the incident to the management committee. Richmond piled up a large score on the No. 2 ground against Marist, its total being over the half-century. Marist. played two short for most of the second half owing to injuries. The remaining senior match was played at Glen Eden Park, where City gained its first success by defeating Newton. Following were the results of Saturday's senior matches: — Ponsonby, 8; North Shore, 8. Mount Albert, 20; Manukau, 4. Richmond, 55; Marist, 15. City, 14; Newton, 0.
