TOWN AND COUNTRY WORK AN EXTENDING FIELD The reports and balance-sheets submitted to the annual meeting of the Ngaruawahia Plunket Society showed that the society had concluded a very successful year. The president, Mrs. D. Welch, presided. The report of the nurse. Miss Brown, contained the following figures:—Visits to rooms, adults, 3065; babies, 2682; children, 767; visits to homes, 291; new babies, 151. Tlio election of officers resulted: President, Mrs. I). Welch; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames H. J. Sampson and G. B. lsdale; secretary, Miss 1. Gerrard; treasurer, Mrs. J. D. Joy; committee, Mesdames W. McGruer. C. E. Wilson, It. 'McFarlane, C. E. Moir, E. D'Arcy; advisory committee, Drs. D. Martin and G. J3. lsdale, Messrs. H. J Sampson and P. Feeney; auditor, Mr. W. G. Adams. The meeting passed a vote of thanks to the Ngaruawahia Borough Council for its donation to the funds. The Ngaruawahia section of the society is furthering a scheme for the building of Plunket and rest rooms for which purpose it has collected £57. Pit OGRESS AT PAPATOETOE Increased activity in the movement was reported at the annual meeting of the Papatoetoe branch of the Plunket Society. Mrs. D. Nathan presided over a large attendance. The report and balance-sheet showed the branch to be in a sound position. Increased visits totalling 273 were reported by the nurse. Officers were elected as follows: Patrons, Dr. J. J. NORTHCOTE ACTIVITIES The first meeting of the Northeote Plunket committee since the annual meeting was held on Wednesday night. The president, Mrs. A. Campbell, extended a welcome to the new vicepresidents and committee. The nurse reported that 97 visits had been made during the month to the Northeote Plunket rooms by 44 adults, 42 babies and 11 older children, and 31 visits had been made to homes, including 13 new cases. The Birkdale district had been visited on four different days. Transport had been provided by Mrs.
A. Sterling, Mrs. It. C. Morley, Mrs. N. J. Campbell and Miss M. Lepper in March, and by Mrs. N. It. Stewart, Mrs. N. E Heath, Mrs. L. T. Hayman and Mrs. N. J. Campbell during April. Donations were received from Mrs. J. Fawcett and Mrs. W. E. ,Richardson. Letters of thanks for donations of five guineas each were received from_ the Auckland branch and the Karitano Hospital. BIRKENHEAD
It was the intention of the Birkenhead Plunket Committee to open the new Plunket room for Birkenhead early this ' month in the premises of Mrs. Richards, in Glenfield Road, Highbury. This, however, has been found impracticable, and the opening has been postponed until the beginning of next month. The equipment for the room has been procured, but not yet installed. Birkenhead mothers in the meantime will attend at the Northeote Plunket room, where the nurse, Miss Joan Carmichael, will be in attendance. The Birkenhead committee at its meeting on Tuesday night decided to send an expression of sympathy to Mrs. J. C. Allan, the Auckland president, in her illness. The president, Mrs; N. J. Campbell, presided. Mrs. C. E. Napier, Mrs. C. E. Carter and Mrs. C. E. Dowsing were elected members of the committee, Intimation was received that the picture benefit arranged by Mr. Henry Hayward was to be held at the end of the month at Birkenhead.
