BEEF CATTLE IN DEMAND

The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, reports as follows on its Morrinsville stock sale held on Friday:—

Sheep: A smaller entry of fat sheep came forward, comprising chiefly fat ewes and iambs. Late rates were maintained for mutton and fat lambs showed a slight improvement. Store sheep: Asrain a very large yarding of store sheep, including breeding ewes and the advertised lines of wethers ex Gisborne. For the latter competition was equal to last week and late rates were realised. Although there were many pens of better quality ewes 'offered than at previous sales, the inquiry was not so keen and vendors' reserves were hard to reach. Cattle: A good entry of beef cattle came forward and met with brisk sale at advanced rates. Fat Jersey cows and boners were again penned in heavy numbers and for these competition was strong at recent values. Potter bulls were firm at late rates. Store cattle: The entry attracted a good bench of buyers and it satisfactory sale resulted. A large entry of Jersey heifers, running with the bull, was penned, and for any showing quality competition was keen and prices remained firm. Two pens of choice Jersey heifers, running with bull, on account of Messrs. Watson Brothers, of WaltonT realised £7 ISs and £0 5s respectively; two pens of choice heifers offered on account of a client, realised £7 l(>s and £7 9s; and from other vendors two lots made from £5 10s to £O. Dairy cattle: Competition was keen, a total clearance being effected at satisfactory rates. Pigs: Again a heavy entry of fat pigs, the bulk of the offering being porkers. No heavy baconers were penned. Competition was spirited throughout and prices realised in advance of those ruling atFrankton. Stores and weaners were also penned in large numbers and prices were on a par with late rates. Cjaotations:— Fat sheep: Heavy fat ewes, 22s to 22s 7d; lighter, 19s (id to 20s 6d; empty ewes, 8s Od to 10s; prime hoiigets, 34s 3d; woolly fat lambs, 27s 3d to 2l)s; good shorn lambs, 23s to 25s 3d; lighter fat lambs, 21s (id to 23s id; shorn ewe lambs, 295; shorn wether lambs, 13s 9d to lis 9(1; cull lambs, 12s fid to lis. Store sheep: Forward-conditioned two-tooth wethers, 31s Od to 31s 9d; store wethers, 22s <>d; four and six-tooth ewes, in lamb to "Romney rams, 33s Od; mixed aged ewes, in lamb to Southdown rams, 20s Od to 325; five-year ewes, in lamb to Southdown rams, 20s to 3ls; sound-mouthed ewes, ex-North Auckland, 2/S Od to 31s; other ewes, ex-North Auckland, 21s to 20s Od. ISs to 225; medium, 15s to l.s Od; good slips, 12s to 10s; weaners, 5s to 10s; breeding sows, £2 to £3 15s. Dalgety and Company, Limited, reports:— Sheep: A moderate yarding. The quality of the yarding was poor, consisting principally of aged ewes in lamb and store lambs. Owing to the recent rough weather competition was onlv moderate. Late rates were obtained. Cattle: A large yarding of fat and store cattle. There was a good demand for anv beef cattle of Quality and fleshy cons were also keenly competed for at slightly better prices than have been ruling during the last fortnight. Fat Polled Angus cows made £7 5s to £7 12s; fat Shorthorn cows, £0 to £G ss; fat Jersey cows, £4 10s to £o 15s; fat Jersey heifers, £4 os to £<* 10s; medium fat Jersey cows, £3 to £3 Ivs Od; heavy boner cows, £2 10s to £_ iis 6d, cull cows, 30s to 355; small Polled Angus cows, running with Polled Angus hulls, £4 12s to £5 3s; yearling Jersey heifers, £2 _s Od to £2 10s. Pigs: A medium yarding; of pigs came forward, chiefly porkers, t nil late market quotations were maintained througnout the sale. The New .Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, reports.—Cattle: The entry of fats and stores was rather smaller than customary although a fair proportion were medium to good quality, under brisk competition prices were well mi»tained at ruling levels. All sold freely. The advertised dairv herd came forward in fair order and attracted keen interest. A very p:ood sale resulted, all changing? hands under livelv competition at most satisfactory prices. Sheep: Late rates were secured for a medium entry of fat ewes, most of which were of only fair condition. Store lambs sold readily while the inquiry for medium numbers of full-mouth breeding ewes was quite keen. Forward fat lambs 10s to 225; store lambs, l-ls to 10s; inferior, up to 13s; full-mouth breeding ewes 18s to 20s; inferior, up to 17s Od; fat aged ewes, 10s to 17s Od; killable, 15s to 10s. Pigs: A slightly larger entry of mostly porkers drew a good response fro") buyers, who paid prices about equal to Frankton realisations. There was no alteration for store pig values. The entry of these was small. Medium baconers made £3 2s Od to £3 Os; medium baconers, £2 12s Od to £3; heavy porkers, £2 5s to £2 10s; light, up to £2 4s; good store pigs, 16s to 10s; others, 14s to 10s; slips, lis to 13s; weaners, up to Os. CLEARING SALE AT PUKEKURA The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, reports having held a charing sale on account of Mr. W, Kells, Piikekura, when his wholo herd of 32 Jersey cows was offered to a good attendance of buyers. The herd, which came forward in good condition, included a fair proportion of young early calvers, which met with brisk competition, firm values resulting. Matured and later calvers sold well. The usual offering of sundries. which were in good order, also met with a ready sale. Realisations were;— Choice voung Jersey cows, early calvers, £lO 10s to i;l 1 10s; others, £8 to £10; Friesian cows, early culvers, £7 10s to £8 10s; others, £0 to £7; older and later calvers, £4 10s to £5 10s; aged brown mare, £lO 10s. GLEN ANGA HEREFORDS The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Hamilton, reports us follows on the special reduction sale of Glen Anga Herefords held oil behalf of Messrs. Tynan Bros., Te Anga, on Friday, and conducted jointly with the Farmers' Cooperative Auctioneering Company, Limited, and Wright, Stephenson and Company, Dalgety .and Company, Limited, To Kuiti, and Abraham and Williams, Limited:—The cattle canto forward in splendid order and showed groat quality, notwithstanding the fact that they were reared on rough country. Their excellent breeding was an important, factor conducing to the wonderful sale which resulted. A representative gathering of buyers from many parts of the North Island were present. From the outset animated competition was forthcoming and consistently maintained throughout. Practically the whole offering, comprising 15 yearling registered horned bulls, 10 purebred horned yearling bulls, eight purebred Polled Hereford bulls, 12 registered yearling heifers and 50. purebred cows, changed hands. The principal sales were:—Yearling registered horned bulls: To Mr, F. J. King, Awakino, Glen Iva 43rd, lOgns, and another at 38gns; to Mr. C. K. Balke, Taumarunui, one at Signs; to Rotoiti Land Company, bulls at 31, 27, 35, 31 and 28gns; to Mr. T. D. Allen, Tirau, at 32 and 27gns; to Mr. J. S. Allen, one at 31gns; to Mr. A. P. O'Neil. Raetihi, 37gns. These yearlings averaged 31!4gns. Purebred Polled Hereford bulls: One to Mr. K. S. Thompson, 39gns and one at 23gns; to Finance Corporation, one at 32gns; to Mr. H. There was also a large yarding of wethers, which sold readily at late rates.
