AN EASY VICTORY

PONSONBY IN FORM Ponsonby registered a good win oyct Kewton, which was beaten in all departments by a better balanced thirteen. The Ponsonby backs played with excellent combination and handled the ball well in passing bouts. Tho forwards sliono in the loose, and fast raiding tactics nullified any chances the Newton backs had on attack. In the first half Newton put up a good fight, however, and only bad handling prevented tries being scored. , „ The Ponsonby forwards repeatedly won the ball from set scrums and tries were made easy in the second half. Several nice movements were witnessed in this spell when tho game became more interesting, in spite of the increased score. On one occasion Morgan, a forward, broke away and five 1 onsonby backs raced into tho movement before McKinney scored. The Newton backs were beaten for speed, and the forwards mot a more solid set, particularly in the scrums. For Ponsonby, Kay played a fine game.at centre, and is fast reaching his best form. He made somo brilliant >runs and was a thorn in the side of the opposition throughout. He was responsible for four tries. Miles played a sound game at fullback and his handling was sure. He could, however, improve his kicking. Black gave a good display behind the scrum and was well supported by Stockley at five-eighths. Both Jones and McKinney played good games on attack. Morgan was outstanding among the forwards and Petersen and Keane were also prominent. , , . . Dempsey was the pick of the Isewton backs, who got few chances on attack.
