ENCOURAGING LARGE FAMILIES

Sir, —I was very interested in the letter of "Mother of Sey&n,"' and can well understand her point of view. Brief!v, the purchasing value of the pound to-day is so reduced that it is utterly impossible for one to provide shelter, clothes and good nourishing food without getting into debt. 1 would make the following suggestions: (a) Allow every expectant and nursing mother in poor circumstances to obtain a doctor's certificate, free of charge, which, upon presentation, entitles her to, say, two pints of milk per dav—also free, (b) Definitely a bonus of'at least £5 for each baby; and why not £10? We are facing an immigration problem inasmuch as Britain's population is on the decline and personallv I prefer New Zealanders to foreigners. This is something for the Government to ponder over. Myra.
