SAVAGE CLUB
OPENING OF SEASON 49 YEARS OF ACTIVITY Reference to the fact that the Auckland Savage Club, which opened its season on' Saturday evening at a korcro in the Lewis Eady Hall, was the oldest Savage Club in the southern hemisphere, was made by the immediate past rangatira, Captain R. S. Judson, V.C., in installing Past-Rangatira W. H. V. Taine in the chair. It was 49 years ago that night, said Captain Judson, since the club's first rangatira, the late Sir Frederick Whitaker opened and presided at the first korero. Sir Frederick was twice Premier of New Zealand. The founder of the club and the first secretary was the late Mr. E. E. Bilborough. It was fittine to remember those grand old pioneers who did so much for the movem<A tribute to the qualities of the King and Queen was expressed by Mr. G. W. Hutchison, when referring to the impending Coronation. Members drank the toast of Their Majesties.
