ROADS IN AMERICA
INVESTIGATION OF METHODS AN AUSTRALIAN'S MISSION The latest methods of road construction in the United States are to be investigated for the Victorian Government by Major W. T. 13. McCormack, chairman of the Country Roads Board, who passed through Auckland yesterday on his way to California by the Monterey. Corresponding to the Main Highways Board in New Zealand, the Country Roads Board controls 12,000 miles of the Victorian road system, and spends approximately £2,000,000 a year on maintenance and new works. Major McCormack has been chairman of the board for nine years, and a member since its inception 23 years ago. Major McCormack proposes to spend a fortnight in California, and then he will attend a conference of ..engineers in Montreal. Ho hopes to spend a week in New Zealand on his return.
