NEW PLYMOUTH GALLOPS ' REFRESHER AND GLENTHAWN [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday Heavy showers during the night left the New Plymouth track rather soft for training operations this morning, when horses engaged at Woodville were given their final trials. All the gallops took place on the course proper, where the Hags were out nearly 40 feet. Good efforts were recorded by Refresher and Glenthawn. H. Dulieu's team were let off with easy tasks. Silk Sox, who is looking really well, did two rounds at easy half-pace. He should be fit for the I liawera meeting. I Bunting Maid, who is carrying more | condition Ih'an formerly, hit out freely i over two rounds. ELLIS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] CHIUSTCHURCH, Tuesday The death occurred this morning of the Riecarton trainer R. Fllis, who had been ailing for some time. Ellis had a long career among horses and handled many good winners, including St. Denis. King Star, Will Oakland. Finora and To Au'hina, Finora held the record for seven furlongs for Australia and New Zealand for several years and produced Golden Dart, who, since being sold by Ellis, has been a useful winner.
