PROTEST AT PAPAKURA BOARD REFUSES REDUCTION The Papakura Town Board's decision to increase the rent of Prince Edward Park to the Papakura Rugby League Club from £5 to £lO for this season was the subject of a complaint made by a deputation to the board. The deputation stated that the charge was excessive in view of the fact that the board had granted the Papakura Rugby Club the usq of the Railway Reserve for £1 Is. Mr. Les McVeagh, secretary of the club, said that the board's argument that better facilities existed at Princo Edward Park was denied by his club. The chairman, Mr. H. E. McEntee, said the board had spent more each year than it had received in revenue from the ground. The board had, however, provided from time to time fences, goal posts, a flood light costing £ls, and a eolef shower. The board was thoroughly justified in increasing the charge. Mr. D. Weir said it- was rather unfortunate that the Railway Reserve was introduced into the discussion, as the board had spent £4 10s on cutting the grass in Prince Edward Park. The chairman informed the deputation that the question would be discussed later in the evening, but lie did not hold out much hope of a reduction. The board decided to let the present arrangement stand, by charging the_ s Papakura Rugby League Club £lO a season for the use of Prince Edward Park. The chairman, added that if any member of the board wished to alter it, a notice of motion would be required.
