AID FOR FARMERS
NO COSTLESS CREDIT
MR. SEMPLE EMPHATIC
MANY MEASURES PENDING
[hy telegraph—own correspondent] MOHRINSVILLE, Tuesday The Government was not going to be stampeded into any wild-cat costless credit schemes, sflid the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, in reply to a deputation which waited upon him at Morrinsville to-day and urged that dairy farmers should be paid a compensatory price for their output. Money represented value, Mr. Semple continued, and unless the value was there money was worthless. Everyone was entitled to a reasonable compensation for his services. The guaranteed price would be reviewed at the end of the season in the light of the current season's experience, and if a greater measure of relief was warranted it would be given. The Minister urged farmers to get together and agree to what was a fair price, and to make representations to the Government. Amendments to the Mortgagors and Lessees' Rehabilitation Act were under consideration, he said, and would he placed before Parliament next sessiofi. A committee had submitted a favourable report on the question of providing houses for farm workers, and a decision would be given shortly. The question of farmers' transport licences was being considered, and the whole system of road taxation was being reviewed.
