METEOROLOGICAL RAIN IN NORTH ISLAND GOLD NIGHT TEMPERATURES? The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows:—While an intense anti-cyclone covers New Zealand a cyclone of"moderate intensity lies to the north-' west with its centre near Norfolk?' island. The forecast is for light to moderate and variable winds, but mainly easterly or north-easterly prevailing over the South Island and moderate to strong south-easterly to easterly in the North, rising in places to gale force, especially over the northern half. Seas rough to high north of East Cape and rising north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong east to south-east winds to gales ill the' northern area, with rough seas; moderate easterlies and moderate seas in the southern area. The weather is likely to be dull and mistv with rain in the northern and north-eastern portions of the North, Island, some heavy falls being likely later, and scattered rains extending also to eastern districts of the North Island and. the Cook Strait area; elsewhere fair to fine. Cold night temperatures, with some sharp frosts in. the South Island. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST RAIN IN MOST PLACES The Government meteorologist issued ' to the Herald last .evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Strong easterly winds rising in places to gale force.
