RIFLE SHOOTING
AUCKLAND CITY CLUB
A practice shoot at, 300 yards was fired by members ofvthe Auckland City Defence Rifle Club last Saturday, when the newlyadopted single-arm sling was used for the first time. Conditions were good and, in spite of the fact that the type of shooting was strange to most of the competitors, the scores of the top men in each grade were very satisfactory. Crocker, 46, 45 —91; I. G. Campbell, 44, 44—88; E. Johns. 40, 42 88; H. G. Collingwood, 44, 42 —80; E. Hill, 41. 42—83; J. Bond, 42, 41—83; R. W. H. Howie, 39, 43—82; D. Purvis. 42. 39—81; F. Clark, 40, 40—80; R. R. Boaden, 41, 39—SO; Phavo, 40. 30—70; F. Gwilliam, 31, 39—70. The first shoot in the final trophy series will be fired at 300 yards next Saturday. A special trophy for the best grand aggregate of scores off the rifle, plus handicaps, will also be competed for, this competition running over three shoots.
CLEVEDON DEFENCE CLUB Members of the Clevedon Defence Rifle Club held the final shoot for a trophy presented by the club. S. Nicholson won the trophy, with a total of 184 points, and F. Jones took the spoon for the highest sccre on the day. The ranges used were 500 yds and 000 yds. Following are the results:—S. Nicholson, 92, 92 —184; H. Kimpton, 92, 91—183; H.
