TRADE IN AUCKLAND ' POULTRY-KEEPERS' POSITION SOME GIVING UP BUSINESS Business in grain and produce in Auckland shows an improvement, and the present tone is better than it has been for some time. Values remain high and further advances have been made in oats and chaff. The only line to show any easing is maize, which has been reduced owing to the proximity of th.e first shipment of imported stocks, which is due to-morrow.. The present high values of practically all lines of grain are forcing some poul-try-keepers to give up business, as costs are prohibitive. POTATOES The main supply of potatoes on the local market is still coming from Hangitikei, and prices are- slightly easier at from £8 5s to i'S 10s a ton, through store. Only very limited quantities of Southern potatoes havo arrived, hut shipments will be larger in the near future. The position in the South is firm. ONIONS. Business in onions is quiet at the nominal value of from £U 10s to £lO a ton, through store. FOWLWHEAT The recent shipment of Australian fowlwheat, continues to meet with a ready inquiry and stocks held locally appear to be sufficient for ahout a month. The position is very firm and particularly high values havo recently been ruling in Australia. Only small stocks of New Zealand fowl wheat are available and it is doubtful where further supplies are to come from, as stocks are light throughout the world. The through store values locally are unaltered at about 7s 2V 3 d a bushel. MAIZE The maize position is again weaker on account of the arrival of the Coptic to-mor row from South Africa with the first shit ment of imported stocks. A further shipment is due from Java early next month. Values are lower at from 7s »d to 7s lOd a bushel through store. BARLEY The position in the barley market is unaltered and little business is being done be cause poultry-keepers are turning to fowlwheat, as it is comparatively cheaper. Ihrough store quotations are unaltered at 6s Id a bushel for clipped. OATS AND CHAFF There has been an advance of Id a bushel in the price of oats, current rates being about 4s lid a bushel, through store. The position is firm but steady. „ Chaff is very firm and holders in the South are asking for higher values. Prices locally are higher at about £9 10s a ton through store. BRAN AND POLLARD

Although the market for pollard in Australia is firm, this has not been reflected here yet and values are maintained at last week's level of £8 los a ton, through store. i\o quotations are available from Sydnev and values in Melbourne are particularly hiprh. Steady business is being done in bran at the unaltered price of £6 los a ton, through store.
