MORNING TEA HELD WOMAN EVANGELIST'S WORK An interesting time was spent by members of tho Travel Club on Friday at the weekly morning tea held in the Millie and Chovco Reception Hall. The speaker was Mrs. Catherine BoothClibborn ("the Marechale"), daughter of the late General Booth, founder of the Salvation Army. The story of Mrs. Booth-Clibborn's experiences in France when doing missionary work many years ago, was told with vivacity, humour and conviction. There was then no corps in Europe, and as far as she knew, not a single Salvationist on the Continent. From Paris she went to Switzerland, where the opposition to her work was so strong that she was twice imprisoned. Those times, she said, had been ex-cellent-for giving her a rest. To imprison her the Swiss broke their own constitution. However, she conducted her own defence and the jury acquitted her. Mrs. Clibborn-Booth left the Salvation Army 35 years ago to give her time to general church evangelism, working in most English-speaking countries. After returning to England she will probably visit Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
An address was also given by Miss Rosemary Rees. the authoresu. Songs were 'given by Miss Frnnehi Lisma, of Australia, who was accompanied hy Miss A. E". Hansard. Floral shoulder sprays were presented to Mrs. ClibbornBooth, Miss Rees, Miss Lisma, Miss Hansard, Mrs. H. Tresider, of Java, and Mrs. Bull, the wife of tho new Canadian Trade Commissioner.
