PRESENTATION EVENING RETIRING COMMISSIONER A presentation evening arranged by the guiders of tho Waitemata district was held in honour of the retiring district commissioner, Airs. J. Thompson, in the Women's Alemorial Hall, Takapuna, on Saturday night. There was a large attendance of guiders, guide patrol leaders and committee members, representing the companies of tho district. Games and a competition helped to make an enjoyable evening, the competition being won by Aliss Hilda Thompson. . . During the function Mrs. Thompson was presented with a rose bowl by the oldest guider, Aliss Evelyn d'Esterre, on behalf of those present. On behalf of the brownies, Airs. Thompson received a bouquet from Aliss Josephine Robins. The value of the work done by Airs. Thompson was referred to by the former commissioner, Airs. J. Percival. A special message and an apology for absence were received from Airs. \\. R.. Wilson, the founder of tho New Zealand Girl Guides. The first commissioner of tho district, Airs. Robert Usher, was present. The evening was .terminated by a campfiro ceremony and the singing of "Taps." • The guiders present were: —Aliss Alarv Morton (district captain), Aliss R. Bodie, Aliss Alary Gillies, Aliss Francis Gill, Aliss Gretchan Foote, Aliss Nancy Arthur and Aliss, Eccles. The committees comprised:—Belmont: Airs. H. Al. Fogarty (president), Airs. S. E. Beaumont (president), Airs. R. Aughton (honorary secretary), Airs. H. Corbett, Airs, G. H. Robins, Airs. E. Alullar, Airs. J. R. Spicer, Airs. H. Ellis. Takapuna: Airs. Stuart B.
