MOTOR-SHIP IN TROUBLE

DESTROYER STANDS BY HOLMGLEN REACHES SHELTER [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] WELLINGTON. Saturday Drifting aimlessly with her engines disabled, the Holm Line's coastal motorship Holmglen, of 448 tons, early this morning sought the aid of the combined Australian and New Zealand naval squadrons. The Australian destroyer Waterhen was despatched to the coaster's assistance and stood by for three hours while the Holmglen made for shelter. The Holmglen reached Queen Charlotte Sound under her own power and sheltered there.

The first sign of distress was noticed by the combined squadrons at one o'clock this morning, flares being sighted. Morse signals were later picked up. The Holmglen had apparently been drifting with engine trouble since about eight o'clock the previous morning.
