FINAL MEETING OF SEASON SUCCESS OF A. MATTSON About 5000 people witnessed some ! spectacular motor-cycle racing at the | Western Springs Stadium on Saturday evening, when the final meeting of the broadsiding season was staged. There were a number of minor falls, but no one was injured. The most successful rider was A. Mattson, of Auckland, who scored two wins and one second place in the three events in which ho took part. Detailed results of the racing arc as follows: — AO RANG I HANDICAP, Four Laps, Standing Start First Heat. —A. Mattson sot away very smart I v from 111) yards behind and headed the field within two laps, winning from R.Hill, of America, by about 50yds. Time, 1m 2Ss. Second Heat.—-T. Dielil, from 00yds hehind outclassed the other riders to win by more than 00yds from the Auckland rider L. Perry, Time, 1m HI 2-ss. Third Heat.—R. Grant by clever ridincr tioon caught up his handicap, but fell when in the lead. He quickly restarted and finished only about 40yds behind N. Warry. Time, n m 20 2-ss. Fourth He?t.—After closo competition L. Wilson crossed the line about 10yds ahead of C. Buchanan. Time, 1m 28 2-ss. First Semi-final.—-A. Mattson from 110 yds behind soon overhauled Diehl and ITill, both of whom came to grief at the bends in their efforts to keep ahead. Perry, from 20yds behind, came in about 15yds behind Mattson, these being tho only riders to finish. Time, 1 111 HO 1 -ss. Second Semi-final. —This race was a duel between the Americans, Grant and Wilson, the former winning by 10yds, v.'ith Warry a similar distance back third. Time, 1m 275. Final. —Mattson was attain quickly away, Grant falling on a bend, but continuing. Perry led most of the way, finishing close behind Mattson. with Wilson well back third. Time. 1m 2Ss. CLIPPER STAKES, Fours Laps, Rolliirg Start First Heat.—P. Hill was the only rider to uet away smartly, the next rider being threo laps behind. Time, 1m 20s. Second Heat. —After a thrilling duel ,T. Diehl won by a length from A. Mattson, L. Perry being 70yds back third. Time, 1m 20s. Third Heat. —This was an even race, R. Grant, Carlinson and C. Buchanan finishing in a bunch in that order. Time, lin 21 3-ss. Fourth Heat.—N. Warry crossed the lino <lovds behind L. Wilson, F. Day having fallen when in the lead. Time, 1m 225. First Semi-final. —Mattson won by over lOO.vds from Hill. Dielil fell when close up in the second lap. Time, lm 18 2-ss. Second Seuii-finiil. —Carlinson's engine gave out. Grant and Wilson finished together in that order. Time, hit 21s. Final. —Grant led throughout, being closely attended by Mattson all the way, to gain the decision by half a length. Hill was 00yds back third. Wilson's engine failed him. Time, lm 18s. SPECIAL CHALLENGE MATCH Three Laps, Rolling Start First Heat.—D. Mattson won easily from N. Warry, whose engine gavo trouble. Time, 60s. Second Heat.—D.
