CONTESTS ON SATURDAY VARIOUS ROAD EVENTS SURREY AMATEUR CLUB The Surrey Amateur Cycling Club held its second road race of the season under good conditions on Saturday afternoon. Racing on the Manukau Club's circuit of 2£ miles at Avondale, the competitors rode over 20 miles of the hilly course. Following were the results:—D. Grieve (2m), 70m 555, 1; V. Maguirc (4m), 73m 555, 2; A. Warnock (scr), 71m ss, 3; C. Gofifin -(Oni), 7Sm 4(is, 4. Grieve also secured fastest time. TAKAPUNA AMATEUR CLUB The Takapuna Cycling Club opened its road season on Saturday with a combined race of 11% miles over the lake circuit. A feature of the race was the prominent riding of new members, who took the first four placings in a great finish. Results were as follows::—L. Pratt (2m 15s), 33m 41s, 1; A. Bramle.y (I in 30s), 32m 575, 2; I. Merson (lm 30s), 32m sfis, 3; F. Murphy '3m). 31 in 455, 4. Fastest time went to D. Bowsie (scr), after a hard battle with E. Langridge (scr), his time being 32m 475. NORTHERN AMATEUR CLUB The opening race of the Northern Amateur Cycling Club took place on Saturday at the To Papapa circuit. There were good fields in both senior and junior divisions. Fifteen juniors faced the starter in a five miles event, but owing to an adverse wind the times wero not good. The results were:— J. O'Gorman (2m), 34m 51s, 1; E. Crawford (2m), 14m 535, 2; A. Voss (2m), 14m 51s, 3. The winner secured fastest time. In the senior division 17 starters lined up tor a 15 miles event. The same conditions prevailed as in the junior race, the wind being fairly strong. Results were as follows: W. W. Brown (5m 30s), 47m 455, 1; M. P. Byrnes (lm 30s), 44m 2s, 2; L. Laloli (3rri 30s), 40iii ss, 3. Fastest time went to Byrnes. BEACH HAVEN AMATEUR CLUB The Beach Haven Amateur Cycling Club commenced its road season with -a four miles junior race on the Birkdale circuit. Results: — R. Chetwynd (30s), 11m 375, 1; A. Osborne (3m 30s). 14m 555, 2; L. Bloor (3m), 15m 455, 3. Fastest time was recorded by Chetwynd. SIX-DAY RACE AT WEMBLEY ABOUT £IO,OOO IN PRIZE-MONEY (Received April 4, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, April 3 Between £BOOO and £IO,OOO will be the amount of the prize-money for a six-day international cycle race to take place shortly at Wembley. Britain, Australia, Canada, Holland, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, the United States and Switzerland will compete.

HUNTING COMPETITIONS CONTESTS AT EAST TAMAKI An excellent display of riding and jumping was provided at the annual sports meeting of the East Tamaki Sports Club on Saturday. The conditions were congenial throughout the day both for the hunters and the spectators. The entries for the 17 events totalled over 170, the Open Hunters' competition attracting 20 competitors, including many of the most accomplished jumpers in the province. The ladies were also forward in good numbers and the ladies' hunter event was contested by 14 riders. The pony section was also keenly contested, and from a good field Miss Culford Bell's Tomtit was awarded the premier place in the pony hunter class. The judge was Mr. Keith Buchanan, of Auckland.
