Mr. Duckworth commenced his experience in the traffic manager's office of the New Zealand Railways in Dunedin in 191'6. Later he became secretary to the general manager,-then Mr. R. W. McVilly, continuing in that capacity under suppressive administrations until he resigned to take up the position of committe; clerk to the Wellington City Council.
