GERMAN PRESS CONTROL
NAZI JOURNALIST'S PROTEST
EDITOR OF LEADING PAPER LONDON. March l(i The iron discipline under which the German press lias been working for four years, with every minor official empowered to sav what shall or shall not he published, is beginning to evoke protests in the least-suspected quarters. Addressing the German Press Congress to-day at Dessau, Captain Wilhelm Weiss made an amazingly frank outburst against tlio system of Nazi control in all newspaper offices. Captain Weiss is editor of Hitler's own newspaper, the Voelkiseher Boobnchter, published at Munich. He said: "The German press must not reach the stage when newspapers will become accustomed to publishing matter entirely devoid of criticism and according to. the directions laid daily on editors' tables by the many and various press departments. " There are too many press chiefs in Germany. Much time is taken up in satisfying official and unofficial wishes that might be put to a better and more worthy use.
" The presses cannot be kept waiting until some official finally decides that the speech of his lord and master is ready after the sixth alteration."
