WOMEN'S SQUABBLES NAPIER HOCKEY TEAMS THREAT TO FUTURE OF GAME [BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] NAPIER, Tuesday "Women's hockey has got to a stage in this association where it is not an asset, but a curse," said Mr. C. Cross, when refusing to stand again for the chairmanship, of the Napier Hockey Sub-Association, owing to repeated friction among the affiliated women's clubs.

"For a delegate of a club to come along for self-interest is definitely wrong," continued Mr. Cross, "and matters will not be right until delegates can come along and see two sides of a question. We have firmly realised that drastic steps must be taken this season to eliminate the feeling that exists between some of the women's teams. I don't blame the players at all; I blame the hangers-on. If the position continues it will be the death of hockey.

"Rather than be the cause of the trouble that I feci is coming. I thought it would be better to resign gracefully. The sub-association last year was controlled by energetic and impartial men who worked for the good of the sport —and what do they get out of itr 1 Nothing. You break their hearts." Following a lengthy discussion, Mr. Cross said he would reconsider his decision only if the sub-association was in difficulties. In the meantime the chairmanship was left vacant until the Hrst committee meeting.
