A FAST SEVEN

KILONSA RUNS 1.29

ty||LE BY SHY AND TYBALT

elanage sprints smartly

BY ARCHER Some attractive jiiillops in preparation for the Auckland Racing Club's* Autumn Meeting were recorded at Ellcrslie yesterday, when Kiloasa took the honours oi' tlie morning by running seven furlongs in 1.29. Other good efforts were those of Shy, Tybalt, King Neptune, Jack Tar, Elanage, Glen Abb, Tooley Street and Crooning. The course proper, where the poles were out 40ft., was available for galloping and the ground was , fast. "Weather conditions were also favourable except for a shower during the breakfast hour. On the coprse proper Kiionsa (.Wiggins), after running the lirst three in yßs, finished resolutely to complete seven furlongs in 1.29. It was a line gallop and demonstrated that she is in <rreat heart to tackle her engagement ju the Easter Handicap. A slight easing of the ground would probably improve her prospects. Shy (.Wiggins) and Tybalt (Gilchrist) were 011 terms at the end of a sound mile in 1.-12 4-5. They ran tho first half-mile in 49 4-5s and the last seven furlongs in 1.29 4-5. Both went in good style, although the honours were actually with Shy, who had a good deal the worse of the weights. However. Tybalt is a lazy customer and he impressed by the manner in which he was running on. Tooley Street Goes Well Tooley Street (light boy), after running tho first half-mile in 50s, completed seven furlongs m 1.29 3-5. lie finished strongly and his latest work has beea consistently good, so that lie may show an early return to form. King Neptune (Green) and Jack Tar (Wiggins) were together and going solidly at the end of six furlongs in 1.17.* They ran the iirst three in 37 3-5s and appear to have gone on the right way since racing at Paeroa. Thangilamba went with them in the early stages, but she was eased in the straight and finished a long way behind. Kelly (Gilchrist), Gay Broney (light bov), Royal Appellant (Cameron) and High Tea (Buchanan) were in a bunch at the end of a mile in 1.43 3-5. They covered tlie -first half in 50 3-5s and were in close company throughout. Kelly, with the best of the weights, was going resolutely at the finish and Eoval Appellant appeared to have something in reserve. Elanage ("Wiggins) and Glen Abb (Green) were responsible for the best half-mile in 49- 3-ss, the first furlong in 12 2-5s and the last three in 37 l-ss. Elanage has done well since winning at Pukekohe and should not be disgraced in the Great Northern Champagne Stakes, although he will require to show marked improvement on any form he has yet revealed to defeat Francis Drske and Sinoke Screen. Glen Abb is thriving and went well for a horse in his class.

Crooning's Solid Effort Crooning (light boy) ran seven furlongs from a standing start in 1.31 2-5, being slow over the first furlong in 15s and running the last six in 1.16 '2-5. She lias never looked better and it should not be for lack of condition if she fails " to race prominently in her coming engagements. An easing of the ground ■would not be to her disadvantage. Seven Seas (Gilchrist) dashed over five furlongs in 1.4 1.5. He has a nice turn of speed and is showing improved condition. Aero Queen (Clifford) defeated Speedfast (Coon) over six furlongs in 1.22.1-5. The former has brightened up a good deal since returning from Sydney. Prince Colpssus (Clifford), after covering the'first half in 525, was going lazily at the end of a mile in 1.46 2-5. My Money (medium weight) and Droll (Gilchrist) sprinted three furlongs in 39 2-ss. The Vaals —Ti Tree gelding ,(Green) and Surella (Wiggins) went four furlongs in 51 l-os. Siega (L. Dulieu) was sent five furlongs. Land Girl (Murray) picking her tip at the half-mile and beating her home easily-in 52 l-ss. Digitalis (Turvey) led Billy Boy (Carruthers) and Erase (L. Dulieu) in a working gallop over a mile in 1.52. Horowhenua and Versant On the tap Horowhenua (light boy) was slightly in front of Versant (Holland) at the conclusion of six furlongs -- in 1.20 3-5. Valspear (Craddock) was going nicely alongside Rnight of Atistralia (Coon) at the conclusion of a round in 1.55 1-5, the last three furlongs taking 41s. Valmint (Murray) strode over six furiongs in 1.31. He is bright and •muscular and ,lias gone on the right way

since racing at Pukekohe. Armacourt (Cameron) worked over two rounds, running the last half-mile of the first in 53 3-5s and the last half-mile of the second in 55 2-ss. She infused plenty of dash into her work and is very fit. She goes well under any conditions, but excels when the ground is soft. Black Marlin completed strong work with half a mile in 545. On the No. 3 grass Locknit sprinted three furldngs in 38s. Ho has made a good deal of progress since joining R. E. Brown's team, but is still robust and will require a good deal more workbefore becoming thoroughly fit. Jalldy Karo (O'Connor) was schooled over hurdles and unseated his rider once by jumping awkwardly. Huntsman's Chofus (O'Connor) went fast ""over a couple of hurdles. He cleared the first in good style, but got in a little close to the second.
